Gun Control and Mass Shootings: Facts, Lies and God

“Gun Control and Mass Shootings: Facts, Lies and God” is a mini-documentary answering the critical questions that rarely get asked amidst the gun control debate that explodes after every mass shooting in America. What is an ‘assault weapon’? Do less guns mean less violent crime? Do stricter gun laws prevent mass shootings? Do gun free zones work? Do antidepressant drugs share in the blame? What does history teach us about governments that enacted gun control? Does the Constitution protect the right to own semi-autos? Why aren’t we outraged when children are murdered by drones? Is there a deeper reason within us as to why we want to ban guns? Where is God in all of this? SUBSCRIBE: facebook.com/aaronlujan

Regarding the developing story of an Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, which the whole nation is fixated on, and absolutely sick about at the moment (appropriately so). It’s December 14th, 2012. Elementary school students have been gunned down in Newton Connecticut – and all gun rights advocates, like myself can talk about is why more guns in society is better. What is wrong with us? Right?! Of course I’m saddened to hear about this tragedy. Of course I’m horrified by every detail of this developing story. Of course I wish it didn’t happen! But now, as an advocate of gun rights, I need to address why… why advocates like myself seem to be responding today – not with tears – but by talking about gun rights. Over the next several days, you’ll hear the question “Why” – Why did this happen again? Why does it keep happening? How do we stop it? Those questions will inevitably lead to arguments from both sides: “No one should have guns” – “More people should have guns”. There will be countless arguments presented supporting each side from voices in politics and the media. Some of the loudest voices will make confident statements claiming that new, restrictive laws of one form or another are the answer. That gun rights advocates are perpetuating a culture of violence and that political groups like the National Rifle Association should share the blame for the deaths that occurred. “Get rid of the guns, and you’ll get rid of the violence” – this will be the

Megyn Kelly Panel Clashes Over Stricter Gun Control To Prevent Mass Shootings -Heated Debate

Megyn Kelly Panel Clashes Over Stricter Gun Control To Prevent Mass Shootings -Heated Debate On Friday afternoon, Megyn Kelly’s panel β€” comprised of pro-gun advocate John Lott and pro-gun control advocate Lori Haas β€” debated how effective gun control legislation would be in quelling the string of gun violence the country as seen. What effect, Kelly asked, would gun control laws really have? Lott, who’s made his case before, reiterated his argument that gun-free zones give criminals incentive to attack areas they know are vulnerable. “Let’s say, God forbid, a criminal was stalking you or your family,” Lott said. “Would you feel safer putting a sign on your home that said, this home is a gun-free zone?” To the contrary, Haas, of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, offered a much different perspective, having been directly affected by such incidents. About five years ago, Haas’ daughter, Emily, was shot twice in the back of the head when a gunman opened fire on Virginia Tech’s campus. He was using a high-capacity magazine clip, Haas said β€” and state police said when they were banned, the use of those clips in crime was down. But when the ban expired, the incidents of those clips in crimes increased. “It’s unacceptable in America we allow this to happen to our children and that we see the answer to gun violence as more guns,” Haas argued. “Guns make it easier for bad things to happen,” Lott said. “But they also have benefits in terms of protecting people in terms of

Mass Shooting in Newtown, Connecticut – Gun Control At Last?

“Thirteen years ago, the shooting rampage at Columbine High School in Colorado briefly increased support for stricter gun laws, a rise in public favor that soon gave way to a sustained long-term decline. The mass shooting Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., which led President Barack Obama to call for “meaningful action,” may again shift the polls on gun control. The Columbine shootings generated more public interest, as measured by the Pew Research Center, than any other news story in 1999. Polls by Pew Research and Gallup conducted in the wake of the tragedy found increases of 6 to 8 percentage points in support for stricter gun laws.”* How many more people have to die in a shooting before we “can” have a real conversation about gun control? What will it take for the Obama Administration to produce real legislation to stop more innocent, senseless deaths? Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies) and John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) discuss. *Read more from Mark Blumenthal/ Huffington Post: www.huffingtonpost.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Support The Young Turks by Shopping bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com

The story of a young Georgia mother’s actions during a home invasion is putting a new spin on the gun control debate. A woman was home with her 9-year-old twins when a man began knocking on the door and persistently ringing the bell. The woman quickly called her husband and while he dialed 911, she grabbed the family’s .38 revolver, her twins and shuttered them all in a closet. The suspect then broke into the house and began ransacking it. He walked upstairs and opened the closet door, bringing the woman and her twins face-to-face with the intruder. She acted quickly, firing six shots and hitting the suspect in the face and neck. He was able to get up and stumble out of the home. Police quickly caught up to him and arrested him. Radio host Lars Larson pointed out that while the woman acted heroically, had there been more than one intruder, she would have been in real danger because she wouldn’t have had enough bullets in that type of weapon to protect herself and her family. He said many people want a gun that is capable of holding more bullets, but “this is what the president’s plan will go after.” “This president wants to take away people’s rights to own the appropriate tool to repel an invader or invaders into their houses,” Larson said.
